What does MTHFR gene affect?

When you take folic acid, your liver has to convert it into the active form, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF).

If your liver doesn’t convert it quickly enough, folic acid can build up in your blood. Eating foods containing 5-MTHF instead of folic acid can prevent this from happening.
