Folate, folic acid and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate are not the same thing

Folate is a water-soluble B vitamin that plays an important role in the synthesis of DNA and metabolism in human cells, and is particularly important for pregnant women as it is an essential nutrient during embryonic development.

Folic acid needs to be converted to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate before it can be absorbed and utilised by the body.

Folate is dietary folic acid and is mainly obtained from green leafy vegetables, legumes, fish, eggs, nuts and other daily foods.
Folate, folic acid and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate are not the same thing
Folic Acid is synthetic folic acid, which is the most common folic acid available on the market and is more stable than dietary folic acid and is now the mainstream.
5-MTHF is active folate, which avoids the MTHFR gene polymorphism and does not require metabolism, and is directly absorbed and utilised by the body in the small intestine without any toxic side effects
