L methylfolate is a B vitamin which helps the body make red blood cells. It is also known as folacin and vitamin B9.
The term is often used interchangeably with l methylfolate.
L methylfolate is the natural form of vitamin B9 in food. L methylfolate is the manmade form of the vitamin which is used in supplements and some fortified foods such as rice, pasta, bread and cereals.
A lack of l methylfolate can lead to l methylfolate-deficiency anaemia, which causes the body to produce fewer red blood cells that are larger than normal and don't function properly. These cells are oval-shaped, instead of round, and often don't live as long as healthy red blood cells.

Low l methylfolate levels can also increase the risk of serious birth defects which affect the brain, spinal cord and spine of the baby. For this reason, it is recommended that pregnant women, or those who could get pregnant, take l methylfolate supplements.
Magnafolate® l methylfolate—maximizes the l methylfolate supplementation delivering a "finished" folate the body can immediately use without any kind of metabolization.
